Saveur

My friend brought me to Saveur @ purvis street on a Friday evening.  It was super long queue and no reservation is allowed.  There must be something unique about this restaurant that is attracting the crowd.

Saveur served french cuisine at an affordable price.  Their main course is priced below $20 whereas the premium one at $24.90.  No wonder everyone is queuing to get in.

Foie Gras at $9.90

Saveur's pasta $4.90

Beef short rib braised in red wine $16.90

Pan-seared sea bass at $14.90

Duck Confit at $12.90

Creme Brulee

 Chocolate and hazelnut $7.90

The taste and presentation is really good for the price we are paying.  However, the portion is really small since it is french cuisine. I will definitely recommend this to my friends.

By the way, Saveur has opened another outlet at Far East Square.  I walked past the other day on Friday night and there wasn't any queue at all.  Maybe I should go there instead.

Tim Wo Han

I believe this needs no introduction as you can see long queue almost every hour outside Tim Ho Wan at Plaza Singapura. There are people who waited for 3 hours just to try their Michelin star Dim Sum!!

However, I was so lucky that I do not need to queue at all *blink blink* We went to the Toa Payoh branch on a Saturday afternoon. Surprisingly, once we reached there, we were greeted by the waitress at the entrance and ushered to our table immediately.  We even get to choose our seats! *Don't envy*

This is the restaurant menu.  They have quite a limited choice.  Of course we ordered the must try "Four heavenly kings"

The famous baked bun with barbeque pork aka polo bun.  We love this the most, the crust is crisp and the char siew is tasty.  We even ordered extra to bring home.

Steamed egg cake aka 马来糕 is fluffy and soft.  It is also one of our favorite.

Pan fried carrot cake which is nothing too special

Vermicelli roll stuffed with pig liver taste horrible as I do not eat pig liver. If you like liver, maybe you will appreciate this dish.

Overall, I do not mind having the Polo buns and steamed egg cake again.  However, there is no way that I am going to queue for hours just to have this.

To avoid the queue, visit the Toa Payoh branch during weekday afternoon after 3pm.  The waitress told us that usually it is quiet during that timing.  The restaurant is located opposite courts and on the second level of ERA centre.

Bear Bites

This is the place to get your bear paw bun - Bear bites.  It is located at Scape which is just steps away from Mcdonalds. As it is an outdoor cafe, you might have problem eating there when it rains.

3 steps to order your bear paw bun:
Step 1: Choose your meat - only chicken and fish are available
Step 2: Choose the favour of the bear paw bun.  According to the salesperson, the popular one are original milk and squid ink.
Step 3: Choose the sauce from the 6 different choices

The combo set includes a bear paw bun, fries and a bottled drink which cost $7.80.  Add additional $1 to upgrade to cheesy fries and additional $0.20 for honey mustard sauce. The price comes up to $9.00, not really cheap for a fast food meal.

The burger is really huge.  It's almost the size of a person's palm.

I have chosen the brown sugar bun with chicken and honey mustard.  The bun is soft but overall the taste is nothing to "wow" about. But the cuteness level is totally "WOW"

Honeymoon Dessert 满记甜品

Hong Kong famous dessert stall 满记甜品 has come to Singapore.  There are 3 outlets so far -  Vivocity, 313 Somerset and Bugis Junction.

We ordered almond paste, black sesame with beancurd and Mango Pomelo & Sago. The taste was pretty ok but nothing really fantastic. The mango was rather sour as well.

Paradise Dynasty

Recently,we went to try the colourful 小龙包 at Paradise Dynasty located at Ion Orchard.  It was very long queue.  We ordered the assorted 小龙包 that came in 8 different flavours.  It includes Original, crab roe, szechuan, chessy, black truffle, Ginseng, Garlic and Foie Gras.  I still prefer the original taste.

TWG tea

D bought TWG tea the other day.  It was $20 for 15 tea bags.  It is using cotton tea bag and not the normal tea bag that was used in those cheaper brands. This is suppose to bring out the aroma of the tea better.

Tampopo

I went for dinner @ Tampopo the other day.  Coincidentally, it was having an anniversary promotion and it was giving up to 50% discount.

I've ordered the black pig Tonkatsu which was supposed to be a top grade pork. Indeed, it contained a lot of fat! The portion was huge!

Caesar Salad

D made for me this caesar salad for my lunch. The ingredients are Romaine Leaves, cherry tomato, cheese, bacon bits & crouton. And of course the caesar salad cream.

Mooncakes

Mid autumn festival is coming.  Of course I will not forget to buy my favourite Snowskin with Champaign Truffle from Raffles Hotel.  This year, I also bought the snowskin with cognac.  However, they had once again raised the prices.  The one with champaign is $52 and with cognac is $50.  I've got 10% discount by booking online.

Pokka Blackcurrant Drink

Got this at great deal @ Caltex petrol kiosk.  It was selling @ S$6.90 for a carton of 24 cans.  There were 3 flavours to choose from : Blackcurrant, Lemon and Orange.  Too bad there was no apple which is our favourite.  Since it was only $0.29 per can, I chose the blackcurrant one.

Let's Sweet

Walked passed this new restaurant @ Bugis Junction a few times and it was always packed with people.
It served Japanese Buffet & sweets within 60 minutes.
Finally I went to try today.
Buffet lunch is @ S$15.80 ++

The waitress started the clock at 50 minutes once she brought us to our seats.
The buffet was divided into 5 different sections.
One section serves all kind of breads.
Main section serves savory such as pizza, omu rice, spaghetti, soup etc
One section serves all the Japanese desserts.  Each customer is entitiled to order only 5 different types of pastries at 1 time.
One section serves different kind of crepes and each customer is limited to order only 1 crepe at a time.
One section serves chocolate fountain with marshmallow and fruits as well as free flow of both cold and hot beverages.
We completed our buffet within the hour! But doubt we will go again as the food is nothing fantastic.

BistroTea

Happened to find something interesting from Takashimaya.
Just put the foil pack into the cup, pour hot water and serve. It's very convenient and no mess. It replaces the tea bag and double as a stirrer.
It comes in many different flavors.
I've bought the one with 4 different flavors - Vanilla Peach, Earl Grey, Peppermint & Lemongrass.

Rich and Good Cake shop

Today bought 3 swiss rolls from "Rich and Good Cake shop" @ Kandahar Street.
I've bought Kaya, Mango and Blueberry.
Mango is my favourite as it contains lots of mango bits in the roll.
But the popular one is always Kaya.

Blue Ribbon

Passed by "Blue Ribbon" @ Kandahar Street on my way to "Rich and Good Cake shop".
It sells chocolate imported from Japan.
Was told by the shop owner that it's manufactured by"toyota automobile". How strange.
We tasted the one with champaign and it was awesome.
But not the price though.
1st time customer gets a 10% discount but 8 pieces will still cost us S$30 in a box.
No wonder the shop owner took so long to tell us the price despite us asking many times.
We were not prepared to pay so much for chocolates so we left empty handed.

BluJaz Cafe

Had my lunch today at BluJaz Cafe @ Bali lane.
Ordered the Grilled chicken set lunch that come with fish chowder soup, grilled chicken, cheese cake and coffee @ only S$10.
I dislike fish so soup is out for me.
The chicken is tasteless.
Cheesecake is not rich enough.
Coffee is too bitter despite I put in 3 packs of sugar.
Definitely not going back there again.
